OYSTERS AT COOTER BROWN'S
Last night we went to Cooter Brown’s for huge, cheap oysters and the Hornets.  We love that place. The oysters really are huge, only $8 for a dozen, and the beer selection is out of control. We enjoyed ours with Abita Andygator, Restoration Ale, and Maudite. It’s always great to see the Hornets triumph!

Every time I go to do a story in New Orleans I hold onto a little piece of hope that things are going to be better this time… …that the community is going to be more healed, that the town is going to look more alive, and that the programs put in place to help homeowners are actually doing so. Well, I should have known better. Imagine this: Louisiana residents – after all they’ve been through and...

Taco Trucks
Jefferson Parish officials banned Taco Trucks last June, and the law pretty much went into effect without much conflict.  (See the Nola.com article) When a council member in Los Angeles recently tried to do the same thing, however, it started what BoingBoing referred to as, “a veritable online revolution.” All of the noise is coming from a new web site, SaveOurTacoTrucks.org.

Global warming is the most significant environmental challenge of the day, and New Orleans is one of the most at risk cities. Wasteful energy consumption is perhaps the largest contributor to Global Warming. One of the easiest effective steps to reduce energy consumption is to change the lighting in your home from old style incandescent bulbs to modern compact fluorescent lighting. If every...

Friends Involved in Bad Car Accident
Bacchanal is one of our favorite places in town. It’s everything we think New Orleans is all about, and we love sharing it with out of town friends. The music, food, and wine is excellent. And the atmosphere is something you cannot find anywhere else in the country. Through the little we have come to know Chris and Otter, we’ve gained a lot of respect and appreciation of who they are...

Big Plans Sputter in New Orleans
In March 2007, city officials finally unveiled their plan to redevelop New Orleans and begin to move out of the post-Hurricane Katrina morass. It was billed as the plan to end all plans, with Paris-like streetscape renderings and promises of parks, playgrounds and “cranes on the skyline” within months. But a year after a celebratory City Hall kickoff, there have been no cranes and no Parisian...
