The SS&S Co. Black Flag, handsewn in New Orleans, is our warning shot over the bow. Beware carpetbaggers and philistines!
Our city is hundreds of years old with some of the deepest cultural roots in the nation. Our language, food, art and music - our very way of life - are sacred living traditions based on generations of knowledge and experience.
Our greatest tradition is a deep heritage of making useful things. New Orleans is a city of makers. This is the town where the Higgins Boat and the Wood Screw Pump was born. This is a town that once housed seven large scale working breweries. This is a town where we manufactured rope, apparel, tools, hardware - anything and everything needed to run a civilization.
We aim to make our way back to that place. This flag represents a start. It’s a physical signifier of our core value; “independence through labor and ingenuity.” Fly it on your house, inside your office or workshop, above your secret fort or pirate ship to let the world know New Orleans ain’t nothin’ to trifle with.
The first flag is proudly hanging in the DNO Store at Magazine & First Street, which is also the first retail project we designed.
