Welcome to Tsai! A little bit about our pop-up restaurant:
WHAT: Tsai features a changing menu of imaginatively prepared dishes built upon the best of the region’s local produce. “Tsai” is a Chinese word that means “vegetable” as well as “dish” and “cuisine.” The food here is direct, hearty, and made from scratch. The menu might include goat’s milk polenta and smothered kale with shitake mushrooms one week, followed by homemade noodles and fried okra with watermelon relish the next week.
WHEN and HOW: Come in between 6 and 10 p.m. on Saturday. Choose your own combination of hot and cold dishes, grains, sides, and soups. Pick up your food at the counter, and enjoy!
WHERE: Tsai will be downstairs at the Dragon’s Den (435 Esplanade – at Frenchmen) for the summer of 2011.
WHY: We are inspired by the vibrant cuisines of New Orleans and by the street food culture in Taiwan, where a quick roadside stop can yield a bowl of steaming dumpling soup or an oyster omelet. Good food can be straightforward and readily accessible for all.
Facebook event for their grand opening.
