School performance scores improve in both St. John the Baptist Parish and St. Charles Parish

Both St. Charles and St. John the Baptist parishes improved their school district performance scores last year, according to figures released Friday.

The St. Charles Parish school district also improved its ranking in the state, rising from seventh in 2007, to sixth in 2008. St. John’s ranking dropped from 50th to 53rd. The state has 69 public school districts.

The 2008 district and school performance scores were released by the Louisiana Department of Education. The scores are based on last spring’s standardized test scores and on attendance and dropout rates.

Two St. Bernard Parish schools beat state averages according to performance scores

The St. Bernard Parish public school districts performance score for 2008 ranked it 31st out of 69 districts in the state, according to statewide scores released Friday show.

Because school performance scores are calculated using data from the previous two years, only two schools in St. Bernard Parish received a ranking: Chalmette High School and Andrew Jackson Elementary.

St. Tammany schools rank third in state based on performance test scores

Receiving a districtwide score for the first time since Hurricane Katrina, the St. Tammany 
Parish public school district ranked third in the state for school performance, based on results of test scores released Friday for the 2007-08 school year show.
